Help us bring social change through the beauty and power of choral music!

Cantare’s Annual Spring Fundraising Drive!

  • Goal: $120k

  • Purpose: Continuing to transform the lives of 2,650+ Oakland youth (21,000 since we started!) in strengthening our community.

  • Methodology: K-12 grade choral music offerings that elicit appreciation, mutual respect and immense beauty.

  • What You Can Do: Contribute any amount in providing access and opportunity for those we serve.

Thank You!

We want to keep our youth programs thriving and accessible.

School funding only covers 50% of the cost of our music education classes. Donations and grants allow us to provide tuition-free classes and rehearsals for students.

Cantare is committed to providing equal access to music education for every Oakland public school child through our classes and choirs.

Please give. Every dollar makes a difference.

Cantare offers a safe, consistent, and fun experience for students.

The longevity of our youth programming—more than 20 years now—has allowed us to build bonds of trust and understanding with the families, schools, and neighborhoods we serve. We have ongoing partnerships with many of our schools.

Shizhou Chen (she/her)
Shizhou had never sung before when she found Cantare as a 6th grader in 2008. She signed up to be part of Nova’s inaugural season and was immediately drawn in. She earned her Actuarial Science and Finance degree from the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania, and has now returned to Oakland where she participates in Transamerica’s Actuarial Development Program.

Being in Nova is very different in terms of interactions with people. People in Nova are really expressive. I like the overwhelming positivity of things.

Ryan Chen (he/him)
is the first Cantare student to sing with us all the way from kindergarten at Lincoln Elementary School through to year 12 in high school with Nova. He is a student at UC Irvine and is the first in his family to go to college.

Cantare has given me countless opportunities to explore the world around me through music. It has given me endless support in my educational studies, extracurriculars, and passions. Most importantly, it has given me a family who has helped me find my voice.

Marri Cleghorn (she/her) graduated from Nova in 2014, and from California State University Fullerton with a BA in Theatre in 2018. Marri moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, modeling, and music. Cantare encouraged her passion for performance, which has led to her doing what she loves in her chosen career. Ever since she joined Cantare's Rising Stars choir at Lafayette Elementary School in 2004, she has enjoyed performing in front of an audience.

I’ve had so many experiences being in Cantare from second grade to my senior year in high school. From choir, I experienced real-world performance skills that I use in my adult life.
